 Robert, Panerio, Sr. - The CWU College of Arts & Humanities Distinguished Alumnus for 2008.Join us in honoring Beep this month as he is presented with this honor by the CWU Alumni Association. Please consider making a gift to support the Robert Panerio, Sr. Trumpet Scholarship. Born and raised in Washington, Professor Robert Panerio received B.A. and M.A. degrees from Central Washington University and later pursued doctoral studies at the Eastman School of Music. For many years, Professor Panerio was a professional trumpeter in the symphonic, show and jazz fields. From 1953 to 1962 Panerio was Supervisor of Instrumental Music at MosesLake, Washington. He then became Dean of Arts and Humanities at Big Bend College where he worked until 1963. Since 1963 he was a professor of music at Central Washington University as well as Visiting Professor of Music at Eastern Oregon State College. Professor Panerio received the Central Washington University Distinguished Professor Award for Creativity in 1982, before retiring. The Robert Panerio Trumpet Scholarship was created through the generosity of Robert and Charlotte Panerio in the 1990s and has been awarded as an annual scholarship to promising trumpet students. Our goal is to raise funds to fully endow this scholarship so that it can remain as a permanent tribute to Professor Panerio and benefit students for many years to come.
