MissionThe Central Washington University Foundation is a partnership of committed volunteers working in concert with donors, alumni, friends, and the University communities to raise private funds that support the students, faculty and programs at Central Washington University.
Our RoleAssist Promising Students With The Gift of Private Funding Public higher education is funded through a public/private partnership. Public universities depend on state funding, student tuition, fees and auxiliary enterprises to operate. These dollars can only be expended within state regulations or to support student and user services. Public universities lack flexibility that independent, nonprofit foundations can provide. As state appropriations for public higher education have been reduced over the past decade and as enrollment and tuition have increased dramatically, the role of the foundation in encouraging private giving becomes even more vital. The Foundation is governed by a volunteer board of directors who commit to seeking charitable gifts that support Central Washington University. Board members represent business and community leaders throughout the state, and over half the members are Central alumni. The board is responsible for policies and procedures that provide stewardship and accountability for gifts and assets and to assist in setting and meeting fund-raising priorities established by the University. The Foundation is an independent, non-profit, charitable 501(c)(3) organization established in 1968 to support Central Washington University. Click here to see the CWU Foundation Code of Ethics.
